Safety Net Types for Construction Sites
Start with what the net must protect against. Fall arrest, debris containment and shade are separate requirements, even when products look similar or are sold together.
Match the function to the product
A net intended to arrest a person requires the appropriate performance evidence, traceability and installation arrangement. A shade fabric is selected for its shading requirement. A fine containment layer may serve a different purpose again.
TSC’s catalogue lists two-layer safety nets and three-layer options with a shade-net or monofilament third layer. Layer count alone does not establish the performance of a fall-arrest system.

Choose dimensions and documentation together
The catalogue sizes for the listed safety-net configurations are 3 × 10 m and 5 × 10 m. Finished dimensions, perimeter rope, mesh construction and fixing arrangements must all match the project requirement.
Ask the competent person responsible for the installation to specify the applicable test evidence, required clearances, attachment arrangement and inspection plan. Do not invent a working load from rope thickness or the number of layers.
Order shade net separately
The shade-net range lists 50%, 75% and 90% shade options. Those percentages describe shading, not fall-arrest capacity. Give the required roll width, length, grade and UV requirement when requesting a price.
- Write the intended use on the enquiry.
- State finished dimensions and quantities.
- Identify netting, border rope and connection requirements.
- Request the documentation specified by the project.
- Confirm suitability, installation and inspection with a competent person.
